7-Day Journey of the Wildebeest Tour - High End
This very special safari is focused on the Great Migration in the Serengeti. You will spend at least four nights in the park, with two nights in the central area and two nights where the migration is located during that time of year. We have designed this particular tour so that you can finish the safari in the most remote location within the Serengeti before flying to your next destination. We can also arrange for you to return to Arusha by land.
You will be picked-up from your hotel at 8:00am and start your beautiful journey across the Great Rift Valley for a full-day game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Although small in dimension (205 sq. miles), this park features breathtaking scenery and is famous for its lush acacia forest, giant figs, mahogany trees, and its growing population of baboons and blue monkeys. Permanent residents of this park also include giraffes, elephants, impalas, and a large number of buffaloes and hippos. Game drives along the lake provide stunning photo opportunities of giraffes and buffaloes in the foreground and the lake in the background. Some extra tours are possible, including a bike tour or a boat excursion. In the afternoon you will return to the camp for dinner.
Note: You can replace this park with Tarangire National Park or add an extra day and visit both.
We will start the day very early with a transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where we will descend onto the crater floor for an incredible morning of wildlife viewing in one of the most stunning places on Earth. After a fantastic afternoon game drive, you will ascend out of the crater and transfer to your accommodations for the evening.
Ngorongoro Crater is considered one the wonders of the natural world. The crater encompasses 102 sq. miles and has 2,000 ft high walls, making it a virtual Noah’s ark that features almost every species of wildlife that is indigenous to East Africa. It’s one of the very rare locations on the whole continent where you can see the black rhino. The crater has a river, several swamps, a soda lake with a great concentration of flamingos, a forest, and open plains. It is also famous for its elephants, which are the largest in the world and have huge tusks.
After an early breakfast, you will make your way to the most famous national park in the world: the Serengeti. The drive itself, although long, is spectacular. Seeing the Serengeti for the first time is an unforgettable moment. As you progress into the park, you will see why the name means “endless plains” in the local language. The park comprises 6,900 sq. mile (18,000 sq. km) and its plains stretch to the horizon, defying your senses and perception of distances. It is the home of the Great Migration of two million wildebeests, hundreds of thousands of zebras, and all kinds of antelopes. It is also the place of choice to see lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. Many famous television scenes of animal river crossings have been filmed in this park.
You will spend the full day in Serengeti National Park. We are completely flexible towards your preferences and the day will be organized according to your wishes. Your guide will discuss with you the best timing for your game drives. You may opt to split the day into two game drives (morning and afternoon with lunch and relaxing in between) or go on a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch in hand.
Over two incredible days you will be driven through remote locations across the vast Serengeti plains in pursuit of the Great Migration. The areas you visit will depend on the time of the year and could take you as far as the remote northern area of the park (near the border with Kenya).
Today we suggest a very early wake-up in order to go on a game drive when the animals are more active (you will also see one of the best sunrises of your life). This is really one of the most beautiful experiences you can have on safari. After your game drive you will return to the camp for brunch before making your way to the airstrip for your flight to Arusha or another amazing destination (like Zanzibar). Alternatively, you may opt to stay at the camp and relax in lieu of an early morning game drive.
